June melted into July and asked me to reflect on all the ways I am different from summers past. This June, the world is no less on fire than past ones, my heart no less connected to the collective grief elicited by multiple genocides, fascism, war, famine, climate disaster. My voice no less primed to amplify the necessary messages to shift paradigms, incite movement, offer hope... And yet the messages from my throat have changed. What I am available to channel has shifted. While rage is still a valid and needed response to the destruction we witness in this world, I am no longer the bullhorn for rage. I honor those who are, whose role it is to be. Rage, for me, has alchemized to both sorrow, which asks for rituals of grief, AND to hope, which asks for spaces to make. So this June I allowed my body to be a facilitation point of both. What did this look like? I led a cohort through Sovereign Storyteller, a radical classroom of heart-led leaders & devoted dreamers. A space of rest, safety, and courage to collectively ritualize the grief, the shedding, the rage, the deep desire for better, freer worlds... for better, freer selves. A space to work together to channel our unique stories, wisdoms, embodiments into the medicine we and our people need. Then, I returned to the community who shaped my work the most - my high school spoken word poetry students. We gathered to just be together, to laugh, to encourage, to reflect on a decade of human-ing together. We worked with a film crew to capture our story into a documentary... if my students' voices have been an irreplaceable light to my path, I know they will illuminate courageous steps for others too. In the spaces where grief teeters into hopelessness, I ask myself to create instead. Insisting on enacting creativity is a meditation on the power that connects me to my ancestors and lands, the refusal to accept that this is how our beloved earth ends, a discipline in creating better worlds from the sub-terranean up, to bloom in the craters left by a toppling empire. But I know I can't do world-birthing work alone. I need you. So I want to talk to you about how we generate power: I'd love for you to reply to this email and share with me the practices, experiments, baby seedlings of projects, fully-fledged revolutionary movements that you practice to stay rooted in your generative power and sovereignty. Over the next 3 emails, I'll be writing to you about:
I hope to keep meeting you here in the inbox. I hope these notes help. / I'm working on making my emails a little more bite-sized... how am I doing? lol. // I'm devoting myself to daily writing this summer and will be posting more long-form on my Substack. /// I'm opening limited 1:1 coaching spots this summer... in between closing one cycle of Sovereign Storyteller and opening the next cohort this fall. If you're even just curious to learn about what 1:1 work with me looks, feels, and sounds like... click here and I'll send you some extra (still loving & educational) emails over the next few days/weeks. The revolution is already within your hands. Let's see what we can make together. |
