I joined my PhD program in 2016 with a singular intention: to protect the programs I was growing in my community. Because my programs served the most marginalized kids and their families, and because I too am a woman of color, we were always under threat. It took me $150,000 of debt and 6 years to complete my program and I was still pink-slipped from my position in a wave of political pushback. I always knew I wouldn't be wasting my gifts from within institutional walls when I graduated. So even though I'd been removed from the classrooms I'd been serving, I graduated with their charge to keep sharing my teaching with the world. (I'm still in caring relationship with many of those students to this day.) When I fell into the world of business in 2023, I was still wary of sharing my sacred knowledge on the internet. The internet felt so... untethered. And yet, I knew this was the space of vast potential for paradigm-shifting work. So for the past year and a half, I've spent my time as an online educator in "test kitchen" format. I've offered free and accessible learning spaces and woven a web of content as care, a body of work as a love letter to my people. And through all of this... something started to emerge. I started to see it more clearly: a third space university. Especially when one alum of Sovereign Storyteller told me that participating in my learning spaces felt like she was creating her own dream PhD program - without the institutional trauma. That landed for me. That felt right. My work online is inseparable from my deeper vision: to participate in growing the symbiotic worlds that fill the gaps when empires topple. And in that world, education remains a human need and desire. In the cultural paradigms of the global majority, actualization is inextricable from collectiveness. So, I live within the tension of the question: What does education look and feel like in a world that exists after empires crumble? What happens when we build those learning spaces now? When my ancestors sent me Simone Seol as answer to prayers for a companion on this journey, our daily conversations began to reveal very tangible blueprints for what our entire lives have prepared us to build together. Simone comes from multiple generations of Korean spirit workers. Based in Seoul, she teaches business through decolonial frameworks and has mobilized 7-figures in community support for justice movements. Together, we understood: in order to fully divest from oppressive infrastructures, there needs to be healthier alternatives to welcome folks into. We imagine a world without waste and plunder. And still we imagine a world of art, education, innovation, and trade as our ancestors knew it - the kind of world they stewarded for thousands of years. With these guiding questions and persistent visions, Simone and I have devoted ourselves wholeheartedly to crafting a new form of education—a "third university" to borrow the phrase from La Paperson—and we're starting with a course called Building Post-Capital Wealth: How to Fund the Revolution. Four worksheets to help you reclaim what colonialism tried to erase: your ancestrally-appointed assignment, your lineage's wealth-building genius, and the vision to fund revolutionary infrastructure. We have created this offering for people of the global majority. We're committing ourselves to the stewarding of sacred knowledge to our people and kin who have been most excluded from infrastructures of power and wealth. This is for you if you're a changemaker, healer, guide, maker with deep gifts... and an uncompromising moral compass. Maybe you've hesitated to take bolder steps because you don't want to compromise your values. Maybe you've watched mediocre people build wealth through extraction and you resolved to never be like them - so you've held back instead. We're here to show you another way is possible. Serious wealth grounded in collective responsibility. Not extractive individualism. If you've been dreaming of a learning space to galvanize your biggest visions for collective liberation... this is it. We're building it. And we're inviting you in. Start with the free course here: Building Post-Capitalist Wealth We have so much in store. And we can't wait for your voices and wisdom to co-create this moment with us. |
