Seeds of Radical Creativity: What miracles happen when you don't ignore that spark of imagination?

"I hope you find yourself here."

I know it's a lot going on out there. Every day brings new headlines of conflict, displacement, and environmental crisis. Our social media feeds overflow with urgent calls to action, while our inboxes flood with marketing messages telling us to hustle harder, share more, build bigger.

Meanwhile, many of us may be quietly (or not so quietly) struggling with burnout, disconnection, and a deep yearning for a different way of being in this world.

In times like these, when the path forward seems unclear and our individual actions feel insufficient, I find myself returning to what I know to be true: creativity is a radical remedy & place to root our actions.

A place where we access the network of collective knowledge, collective action-taking, resilience, hope, and myriad ways we can chip away at oppressive systems WHILE healing ourselves, strengthening our community, and imagining better worlds to reality.

This isn't just about making art or writing stories. It's about reclaiming our right to create the futures we dream of & deserve.

A Simple Seed

For me, this current cycle of radical creativity started with the tiniest seed - a collection of extra writing prompts I'd created throughout the year. Rather than letting them gather digital dust, something in me whispered to weave them together, looking for ways it could become a helpful offering.

Following my creative urge to design, to curate images of nature, to mix soothing colors, I tinkered away on for my own pleasure as I tended to my sick family this winter. It was born from a place of care, stillness, and permission to be creative in ways that felt good to me... not worried about outcome, selling, or "success".

Trusting the Flow

When the initial draft was complete, I felt another whisper - go ask my community to participate.

Despite well-intentioned, protective voices of those close to me questioning why I would "give away" my work "for free", I trusted the wisdom of my Collective People's paradigms that reminds me knowledge flows like rivers - gathering strength from many tributaries, nourishing everything it touches.

Reciprocity is the root system of community.
Creation is relationship.
To co-create with my community honored these truths.

So, I posted a simple invitation on my IG stories for early readers. Within hours, 15 people stepped forward, offering their eyes, hearts, and voices to help this seed grow. Like an underground network of symbiotic growth sharing nutrients and wisdom, each reader added their unique perspective to the work.

The words of my readers have not only changed this work, they've changed me & how I understand myself within this work. Here are some of their voices:

"I found this book through Dr. Joey's Instagram account just at the right time. I was feeling lost in my journey to success, drowned by the idea of having a fast track that required me to follow others' paths... This book helped me find what I needed within myself." - Jessica
"This work did not feel like an 'entry-level' resource. It feels like THEE high-level work you would offer high-level clients... It ALREADY shifted how I explore, identify and share my stories." - Nicole
"Joey is such an amazing storyteller... With a step-by-step guide and examples, I now feel more ready than ever to get started." - Jasmine

Unexpected Emergence

It's taken me over a week to process the feedback & make space internally for what this creation has become outside of me. So much like giving birth to a human, you recognize it as part of you and yet, frighteningly at first, see that it's so much more than what you could have ever imagined by yourself.

What began as a simple prompt packet has now grown into a whole guidebook. My academic mentor Charlotte offered to connect me with her academic publisher, seeing how these frameworks could serve practitioners and teachers still in the classroom.

Simultaneously, my business mentor Regina encouraged me to make a print version available on Amazon, recognizing how this work could support a wider audience seeking self-discovery through writing.

Like a river finding its way to the sea, this creation has carved new pathways I couldn't have engineered if I tried.

The miracle of creating from the seeds we're given is that it will become whatever is in its DNA to become while at the same time being shaped by all the elements of its ecosystem. This project is now both of me and beyond me - something miraculously collective.

I'm excited to share that this project has become "Find Yourself Here: 25 Prompts for Self-Inquiry & Self-Expression" - an invitation to discover yourself more deeply, discover the parts of you patiently waiting in unturned soil.

I'm currently building its landing page home while applying valuable reader feedback into the final edits of both the digital version that will live on my website and the print version that will be submitted for publishing. Each version will serve its audience in unique ways while maintaining the self-inquiry & self-expression heart of this work.

SELF-INQUIRY PROMPT

What tiny seed of creativity are you holding? What whisper have you been hearing that wants to be tended?

Consider:

  • Can you find a soil-y place for that seed to rest?
  • What does adding a little water, time, attention, language to that seed look & feel like for you right now?
  • If you were to envision that seed growing... what form can you imagine it will shape into?
  • Who can you see helping you to tend it? (Who will be water, wind, rock, & pollinator to this dream?)
  • How does this growing thing make our collective garden better?

If the world around you feels increasingly devoid of life & hope, the most radical thing I can think to do is become a better gardener & grower. And that work has never not felt joyful to me.

Reply and let me know what's stirring in you, waiting for its chance to grow into something beyond imagination... I'd love to hear.

As soon as it's ready, I'll share the landing page where you can learn more about "Find Yourself Here" and how it might serve your journey.
